WCPL will be switching to Evergreen Indiana on November 10, 2026
What is Evergreen Indiana?
Evergreen Indiana (EI) is a growing network of public libraries throughout Indiana that use the Evergreen software to allow patrons of member libraries to view the catalogs of other member libraries and to borrow materials from them using their Evergreen Indiana library card.
What are the benefits?
Patrons will enjoy a wide range of benefits as members of Evergreen Indiana.
- Access a much larger collection containing over 7 million items.
- Place holds on materials at member libraries and have them sent here. (except for some AV materials and items added within the previous 6 months.)
- Return items from other member libraries at this location. (fines and fees are currently paid at the library who owns the overdue items.)
- Use all Evergreen member libraries
- Manage your own library accounts.
- Another great benefit of Evergreen Indiana is that it allows member libraries to share resources and reduce costs.
Will there be any changes at my local library?
Yes. To ensure consistency of service across the network, membership in Evergreen Indiana requires libraries to adopt and abide by the common policies of the consortium. As a result, some policy changes will occur.
What are some of the changes?
- Patrons will receive a new Evergreen Indiana library card at no cost.
- Circulation limits will change for some items.
- Audiobooks, books, and movies will be able to be renewed up to two times, while other items will only be able to be renewed once or not at all.
- Pre-overdue notices will be emailed to patrons with valid email accounts prior to the due date.
- We will still be fine free for most materials checked out at our library and you will only be charged if the items are not returned. Exceptions exist for museum/experience passes which are $1.00 per day if overdue. Any items checked out from another member library will follow their overdue fines.
- You may not exceed $10.00 in fines or 15 overdue items to check out. The library will continue to accept percentage payments on fines in order to check out.
* This is not a complete list and more may change as we get closer to the switch.
When does this take effect?
WCPL is scheduled to go live with Evergreen on Nov. 10, 2026. The library will begin operating under Evergreen Indiana circulation policies on that date.
Will the switch to Evergreen affect library services?
Yes, it will affect library service temporarily.
There will come a time shortly before the switch to Evergreen that we will not be able to add new items to our database. As a result, there may be a short delay in the availability of new items and requests.
The library will be closed to the public on Monday, November 9, so we can transfer final information and records to Evergreen Indiana.
Also, we will not be able to issue library cards or change existing patron information during the switchover.
Will my checkout history transfer?
No, your current checkout history will not transfer to the new Evergreen system. If you would like a copy of your checkout history, please ask at the library for us to print or email you one before November 1.
We appreciate your patience while we transition to Evergreen Indiana!
