Position: Teen Services Clerk

Reports to: Teen Services Manager
Classification: Part-time, non-exempt

Position Summary: To support the library mission by assisting the Teen Services Manager with departmental duties and to provide information service to patrons while demonstrating courtesy, resourcefulness and sound judgement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform patron service duties and reader’s advisory following the requirements of the teen, reference and circulation clerk.
- Assist patrons with computers, mobile and gaming devices, Internet access, Microsoft Office software, faxing, scanning, and copying needs.
- Perform clerical duties assigned.
- Assist with data entry.
- Assist with the maintenance of the teen collection.
- Assist Teen Services Manager in selecting teen materials by reading journals and other publications.
- Assist with the promoting and implementing of teen programming and events.
- Assist with the creation of content for teen social media and marketing.
- Serve on library committees and attend relevant meetings.
- Perform any other duties as assigned to ensure the efficiency of library operations.
Authority: Performs as department clerk under the direct supervision of the Teen Services Manager.
Education and Experience Required:
- Two years of college is required; research skills necessary.
- Knowledge of basic reference materials and online catalog skills necessary. Library classes or practical library experience is preferred.
- Experience working with and ability to establish rapport with teens is required.
- Clear and concise communication skills, as well as effective oral and written presentation skills, are required.
- A positive support/service attitude to effectively meet, communicate with, and serve the public and staff is required. Pleasant and courteous telephone response is also required.
- Practical experience with electronic information technology, as well as strong computer and Internet skills and Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook is required.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. Physical strength and dexterity are required to handle items and boxes up to 35 pounds in weight, and to transport loaded book carts; physical ability to reach items on high and low shelves is also required.
- Must be able to accommodate a varied work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
