With recent legislative changes, we know that our annual budget will be decreasing over the next several years. To make sure we’re ready for these decreases in income and ever-increasing overhead costs, while continuing to serve our patrons to the best of our ability, we will be implementing some changes to our digital and physical offerings over the next year, including:
- Hoopla – will be discontinued in March 2026. Please note that you will be able to see your “recently borrowed” items, but there will be a notice on the app and website when you are logged in that states, “you cannot borrow any more titles this month.”
- Hotspots – will be discontinued in March 2026
- Databases that will be discontinued now and over the next few months: AtoZ, Brainfuse, Chilton, Creativebug, Gale eBooks & Virtual Reference, Gale in Context: High School, Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints, Little Pim (Language learning for children), and Small Engine Repair.
- Libby/Overdrive – WCPL will reduce its monthly spending budget, which may result in longer wait times on holds.
- Meeting Room fees will be increasing on March 1. Get details on our meeting room page (https://wellscolibrary.org/services/meeting-rooms/).
- All physical materials – spending on all physical materials in the building will be slightly reduced
- TumbleBooks – will be discontinued in May 2026
Thank you to all of our faithful library users. Each change was made with careful consideration to lessen the impact on our community, while still allowing us to complete our mission of providing access, knowledge, and growth to Wells County. Should you wish to contact your local State Legislators to discuss these impacts, you can find that information available here: https://iga.in.gov/information/find-legislators
