The Wells County Public Library is supported by your tax dollars. The library budget, however, cannot provide many materials that would improve its usefulness in the community.
Through the years, valuable additions to the library have been made possible because of donations from local citizens like you.
There are three ways that you can support the library with your donations.
Wells County Public Library Endowment Fund
The investment of this fund with other Wells County funds provides additional money that benefits both the library and the community. Dividends are used as needed by the library.
Memorials & Gifts
A monetary gift given directly to the library to purchase equipment or library materials that benefit library patrons. The contributor may request that the gift be placed into a Restricted Fund (used for a specific purpose) or may choose the Unrestricted Fund (allow the library to decide how the gift is best utilized). Examples of prior donations to Memorials & Gifts include book purchases, the map rack in the Indiana Room, a digital piano, art, and an automatic entrance door.
The circles on the east wall honor donors in these categories:
- Benefactors – $5,000 or more
- Major Donors – $1,000-$4,999
- Donors – $500-$999
- Patrons – $100-$499

Material Donation Guidelines
*WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING BOOK DONATIONS BECAUSE OF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND COVID-19. CHECK BACK IN OCTOBER 2020.
Only materials in good condition are accepted.
The library will NOT accept the following:
- Musty, damp, soiled, and damaged material
- Old (5 years or older) textbooks, encyclopedias, or Reader’s Digest condensed books
- General magazines over one (1) year old (cooking, craft, & special interest magazines are exceptions)
- News magazines over three (3) months old.
Most donations are sold on the Friends’ NEW AGAIN shelves or at book sales. The income is used to support library programs.
The library can provide a receipt for the number of materials donated, but no value can be assigned.
