At the end of 2021, the Wells County Public Library made several changes to how it will be handling overdue fines moving forward. There are no longer fines for most overdue items, including books, music, magazines, movies, cake pans, equipment, Playaway launchpads, Playaway views, yard games, and board games.
Overdue fines remain in place for passes ($1 per day; $10 max), hotspots ($5 per day; $10 max), and Inter-Library Loan items ($0.25 per day; $5 max).
This change applies to overdue fines only. Fees still exist for lost and damaged items, as well, various library services. This includes fees for processing lost items ($5), Inter-Llibrary Loan out-of-state shipping, lost cards, meeting room rentals, photocopies, printing, faxing, genealogy requests, returned check fees, paid card fees, PLAC fees, and other services as needed. Some fees were decreased in price to make the library more accessible for all Wells County residents.
Also starting in November 2021, the library took away borrowing fees associated with entertainment DVDs and Blu-Rays, which means all items can be checked out from the library without a borrowing fee.
