The Main Library will be undergoing a renovation starting on January 6. The project will be completed in several phases, starting with the 2nd floor and west side of the building. There will be no additions to the building; the existing space will just be reconfigured to allow for a better flow to the space that meets the current needs of our community. This includes:
- Expanded children’s area
- Emergency exit in the Children’s Room
- Nursing room
- More space in the Teen Zone area
- Improved noise management
- Additional study rooms (some that hold 8-10 people)
- Public restroom upstairs
- More tech friendly gathering spaces throughout the building
- Improved flow throughout the building
- Necessary roof repairs
- And other exciting changes to the space
At this time, the library expects to remain open during the entire renovation process and there will still be regular story sessions and events going on for children, teens, and adults. Library staff members have been working from October to December to rearrange shelving, furniture, and office spaces into the areas that will be part of phase two for the construction process. After phase one is complete, there will be some shifting back into the newly renovated areas so construction can proceed to the other parts of the building.
During this time, the library staff just asks for your patience as construction crews work to improve the space. Staff members are happy to help assist you in locating the temporary location of a book, movie, or other item. Despite the construction noise, there should be some study rooms that still provide a mostly quite space if needed as well.
