Balloon Magic @ the Ossian Branch

Posted on October 02, 2013 at 3:16 PM

On Tuesday, October 1st, Ossian residents David and Marilyn Pyard entertained young visitors to the Branch with balloon animals and a few magic tricks. The program started with staff member Melanie Gerber talking about different kinds of balloons and sharing a story. Each child who attended got to take home a balloon animal or hat. The Pyards have been making balloon creations for more than 30 years! We'd like to thank David and Marilyn for generously sharing their talent and time with the kids at Ossian. This was the first Kids' Club program of the school year. Kids' Club meets the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00-5:00 PM. The program is for kindergarten to fourth graders and requires registration. Go to the calendar on the website or call the Ossian Branch, 622-4691, to register. Next month's theme is "Yummy Snacks!"

Other monthly programs also begin in October. The first Monday of the month is "Musical Monday." This program is geared for preschoolers and involves music, movement, plus a story or two! The program runs from 6:30-7:00 PM. The Ossian Branch is offering a monthly Lego Club on the third Thursday from 6:30-7:15 PM. Kids in kindergarten through grade 6 are invited to use Legos provided by the library to build creations based on a monthly theme. Both programs require registration.

I’m Susan Dailey, the manager of the Ossian Branch Library. I’ve worked at the library since I was in high school. (In fact, I received my first library paycheck before my driver’s license!) I’m also a “minor celebrity” to the kids in Ossian because I read books to the preschoolers and kindergartners each month. I've written two books for librarians with ideas for storytime and have taught workshops on the topic around the country.
